30th June 2010: Over 4,600 Beaver Scouts and Cub Scouts from all across Hampshire visited Longleat Safari Park on Saturday 26th June 2010 for an action-packed day of fun and adventure.
Nearly 100 coaches brought young members of Hampshire Scouting aged between 6 and 10 face-to-face with lions, wolves and giraffes.
I’ve really enjoyed to going to Longleat”, said Ben, a Beaver Scout from Waterlooville. “My favourite animal were the seals and seeing them jumping out the water to be fed!”
Jacob from Chandlers Ford commented, “It was an amazing day, even if I did get lost in the maze!”
As part of the day, Hampshire Scouting held one of the biggest ever “Grand Howl” and “Tail Slap” ceremonies involving thousands of youngsters on the lawns of Longleat House.
“There was such a great buzz amongst the beavers and cubs and excitement of being part of such a large adventure with their friends” said Vanessa Slawson, Assistant County Commissioner for Cub Scouts. “Thousands of young people used this visit to give them a greater understanding of the vital conservation work that Safari parks do whilst having a great fun day out."
