Hampshire Scouts are rising to the challenge of making the Worldwide Family of Scouting a reality by helping to support a large group of Kenyan Scouts who fled into Uganda when Kenya errupted into violence after their elections early this year.
Practical help has included gifts of clothing and money for food and to help thoe who are now able to return home to do so.
Although the news media have long since moved on to other crises and disasters around the world, most of the displaced Kenyan Scouts are still in Uganda and help is still needed.
Donations may be sent to the Hampshire Scouts County Office as cheques payable to "HCSC". Just write "Uganda Appeal" on the back. The money will be transferred to the Sironko Scouts to help them support their Kenyan refugee guests and to enable them to return home as soon as possible.
Single envelopes of clothing can easily be sent from the local Post Office.
The address is "Dongo, Aramathan, Elgon Scouts of Uganda, PO Box 1664, Mbale, Uganda".
Use of the International Signed-For service is recommended for small packages.
For larger consignments the "Interparcel" service ( www.interparcel.com ) has been used and is recommended.
